Gwynedd, Bangor, Llanberis, Caernarfon ........ a taste of the places here........but not the wildest parts........ Grey stone scrambles downwards, sharp edges cutting though the thin green....... Silver threads whisper and burble..... Winds rustle and whisper through gaps, roar across spaces....... Gnarled and stunted trees bend and snarl into clefts.... Summer green and purple autumn, brown spring and ice-white winter.... Sheep paths curve and wander where nothing else may....... A harsh world, an other world, no comfort, no mercy........ Nothingness and everythingness. |
| | First, when I was 16, on occasions. Freedom and something other than my industrialised homeland........
Then, when I was 18, my home. The place where I grew, and grew up, and became more me. For too short a time; I do not have the language, so I had to leave.
Later still, I returned with my children to find my spaces as they were, more or less; more people, more money, more things, more ...... stuff....but the mountains remained.
And now, my children grown, I return again. And there were more people still, colour on the once grey buildings, homes where once there were empty and derelict shells, cars and shops and supermarkets......
But still the mountains remain, as they were when I was 16.
It's still like going home. |

wandeljp Tue Jun 2, 2009 18:17 UTC Never been there. Seems a nice place to "discover". Good tips. I don't like very cold water. Jean-Pierre PS : I live very close from Zonnebeeke and Passendale so if you ever come again... | HORSCHECK Sun Jul 20, 2008 12:18 UTC Fantastic little page with brilliant photos. I have been twice to this area but never really made it up in the mountains. I have only visited Betws Y Coed and Blaneau Ffestiniog. I hope I have spelled them correctly ... ;-) | pattypoo Fri Dec 14, 2007 17:50 UTC Glad you like Wales!!! |
