......is a typically English county, with tiny villages, good pubs, farmland and woodland (particularly beech).

Oxford itself is worth a visit, if only to see the Ashmolean and Pitt-Rivers museums, have a drink in the Turf Tavern and walk through Christchurch meadows to the river.

South Oxfordshire encompasses part of the Chiltern Hills, an area of outstanding beauty and brilliant walking country (with some more excellent pubs!). Particularly lovely at bluebell time.

To the south-west lies the Vale of the White Horse (Wantage), a softly-carved valley lying beneath classic downland. Worth exploring the prehistoric monuments around here and perhaps walking a little of the prehistoric trackway known as the Ridgeway.

There's a woodland sculpture park near Christmas Common, well worth visiting if you're in the area. Lots of red kites there too.

Imagine carving a poem into a tree bark! That's a difference from the usual "X loves Y". Great tips, as always on your pages.
