While myself and most people claim that this is a place worth coming 10 times more than commercialized Pattaya, Phi Phi Islands, Ko Samet, Ko Samui etc., this place (and perhaps other islands), in my eyes has another side of the story that makes itself infamous (well you'll be the judge).
Pardon if I have offended any but the following is just based on personal opinion.
It MAY be about beautiful islands and clear blue waters BUT "temptation" lurks - especially to the lonely souls that seeks for a companion (and perhaps lust). You can read these in my travelogue.
Nevertheless, it was my best trip ever made - and a bold move that I have taken - to decide to adventure on my own after my return from Phu Kradeung to Bangkok. "where to, where to? Chiangmai's out of the way - i just need a beach to getaway from the city life - no internet, no television, just a 'simple life'". And I was off to try my luck to the Eastern Bus Terminal Station at Ekamai in Bangkok early at 7.15am to get tickets to Trat and then ferry to Ko Chang. |

| | And so the trip must go on Not knowing where I was going to stay, what I was going to do, and not even knowing what beaches there were, I was already on a 6 hour ride heading to Trat.
The real fear came the moment I stepped onto the island at the ferry terminal. It was already half past 4 in the evening. I didn't see beaches, nor any helpful people. (and regretted not getting that guy who approached me on the ferry to help me find an accomodation - and I gave him that "leave me alone" look). I didn't see any money exchange banks (i was really short of cash). Feeling stranded, I merely followed the other of the backpackers who approached the pickup drivers. As each of the couples or solos named out the beaches they were heading to, i randomly picked a common name - White Sand Beach. Off we went on that pickup, and from than on, the trip changed my perception of the island- from one that's cold and cruel to one that warms the heart and soul.
And that's where the story begins of my 3 days 2 nights trip (which i wished had been longer). |
