Bishops Lawn at the Sora River

by novsco61 - last update: Apr 8, 2005

Skofja Loka Castle
The beginnings of Škofja Loka, a town at the confluence of the Selška Sora and the Poljanska Sora Rivers, date back to 973. The Bishops of Freising, who ruled the Škofja Loka region for 830 years, made a significant impact on the town. The abundant cultural heritage, set in beautiful natural surroundings, gave the town its nickname – The Gallery in Nature. The picturesque façades of the houses gave rise to another nickname – Colourful Loka.

Take a 3D look at Škofja Loka .

Its interesting historical development, the notable tradition of crafts, the culinary artistry of our grandmothers and the unspoilt natural surroundings testify to the fact that Škofja Loka is a historical, ethnographical, art-historical and cultural jewel in Slovenia’s crown. You are invited to attend numerous events, the most interesting of which is Venus’ Trail, with a medieval programme.

Old town core is consisted from Upper - Town square called Plac and Lower square called Lontrg both dominated by the Castle of Škofja Loka which bids the visitors welcome at the entrance to the town.

Škofja Loka is known as one of the best preserved old medieval towns in Slovenia.Together with Piran and Ptuj it established Community of Old Towns in Slovenia.

I'd like to do a daytrip to Skofia Loka. I hope the bridge will not crumble down when I'm walking on it. Ciao!
