Frequently called the Nice of the Adriatic, Opatija is one of the best known tourist resorts in Croatia and simultaneously the town with the longest tourist tradition along the east coast of the Adriatic. In 1883 Opatija became the first place along the Adriatic to introduce tourist statistics.
To be honest - I dont like coastal town like this. I would never go to such place in summer because it's to crowded. But I like it in spring and winter when there's really few tourists. You can walk along Lungomare in peace, listening to seagulls, feeding them... |

The first hotel in Opatija, the Kvarner Hotel, was built in 1884 next to the coast with the help of Austrian finance. It was followed by others and today Opatija has around 20 hotels and many catering and sports and recreation facilities. |
Due to its relatively moderate climate, Opatija's tourist capacities attract guests in both summer and winter. Take a walk along the 12-km coastal promenade (lungomare), go swimming or perhaps visit one of the many restaurants, take in an international sailing regatta – in short, the visitor to Opatija can choose from a wide range of options. | | |
