It is very hard to find country with so many different landscapes on so small teritory. That is why Slovenia is so interesting. In year 2004 we announced new motto - SLOVENIA INVIGORATES .
6 routes throughout Slovenia were presented.
SMARAGDNA POT - EMERALD ROUTE
from the source of the Soca River to innumerable green treasures
A route marked by the Trenta Valley and the Soca and Idrijca rivers.
Kayaking, rafting, canyoning, hiking, and climbing the peaks of the western Julian Alps will challenge adrenaline addicts. You will be surprised by the great number of new local theme routes where for souvenirs you will take home delicate bobbin lace from Idrija, pleasantly tired legs from pedaling the Cerkljansko Bicycle Trail, wonderful panoramic pictures from hiking the mountain trails past Krnsko jezero Lake, the taste of fine wines from the barrels of the more than one hundred private wine cellars on the GoriSka Brda Wine Road . . .
SONCEVA POT - SUN ROUTE
through the warm region of wine and healing waters
A route from north to south that links the sunny hills of Goricko, the Pomurska plains, terraced Haloze, winegrowing Bizeljsko, and Posavje with its unique Cvicek wine.
This route will especially please ethno-tourists, adherents of alternative natural medicine, and castle lovers. You won't find so many friendly people, energy points, or marvelous castles anywhere else. You can explore the castles at Podcetrtek, Podsreda, Ptuj, or Dornava and enjoy the thermal waters and health cures at the Smarjeske Toplice, Catez, Olimia, Rogaska, Ptuj, Radenci, Lendava, and Moravske Toplice health resorts. Among the many local theme routes are numerous hiking and bicycle trails and several wine roads.
VETROVA POT - WIND ROUTE
to the mysterious Karst and the Adriatic Sea
A route coloured as red as the Karst's unique Teran wine. Here, the natural scientists among you will find wonderful ecological jewels, from the Secovlje salt flats and the underground wonders of Postojna Cave to the disappearing Cerknica Lake. For the marvels created by the renowned architect Joze Plecnik, you'll have to visit Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. On the way are numerous interesting local theme routes to follow such as the tour from Rakov Skocjan Park to Loski potok and the Bloke plateau, home of some of Europe's earliest cross-country skiing and the unique Bloke skis. For those who believe in supernatural forces, another route leads across Planinsko polje to Mount Slivnica above Cerknica Lake where the witches gather . . .
KROSNJARSKA POT - PEDDLER ROUTE
from every corner of the world to the white birches
A route through the landscapes of southeastern Slovenia: Dolenjska, Bela krajina, and the Kocevje and Ribnica regions. Lovers of handicrafts and old tools and machinery will especially enjoy this route. See traditional handmade linen goods and artistically decorated Easter eggs in Adlesici, woodenware in Ribnica, the mill in Zuzemberk, and the old sawmill and steam engine in Soteska.Along the many local theme routes, you can take a canoe trip on the Kolpa River, explore the fascinating marshes in Lahinja Regional Park, and try the wines and homemade delicacies on the Bela krajina Wine Road.
ZLATOROGOVA POT - GOLDENHORN ROUTE
with a view of Alps and lakes
A route that combines the wild beauty of the highest Alps, glacial lakes, forested plateaus, and waterfalls in the unique and internationally famous Triglav National Park. This route is a gift for romantic and adventurous spirits that we recommend for longer visits with good hiking shoes or mountain bikes.Among the local theme routes you can choose the picturesque Dovzanova soteska canyon with its world-renowned fossils, the alpine dairy farms on Konsca theme trails, the more than 300-kilometer long Loska Bicycle Transversal, a trip back in history along the Rupnik Line, the Blejski Vintgar gorge . . .
JANTARJEVA POT - AMBER ROUTE
to follow the footsteps of our ancestors
A route marked in the colour of the amber carried over it by our ancestors. This route takes lovers of well-being to thermal health resorts in Zrece, Lasko, Dobrna, and Rogla, of flowers to the Mozirski gaj Botanical Park and the Volcji potok Arboretum, and of summer events to Maribor's summer festival in old Lent beside the river. On the newly created local theme routes you will uplift your soul on the pilgrimage Archbishop Slomsek Trail, relive ancient customs with the rafters on the Drava River, explore the Logarska dolina Regional Park . .
A free mini course of Slovenian is held each Wednesday from June to September from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. at the Slovenian Tourist Information Centre (STIC) at 10 Krekov trg square.
