If you like to take pictures of old churches and buildings, Haarlem is a must see town. Haarlem is an old town with lots of history.
I must admit I have not spent enough time here. Haarlem doesn’t get the coverage that Amsterdam does, but has a lot to offer the visitor. You need to plan on a full day to see the sights.
There is a tourist information located at the train station, however like all of the other information desks in this county they charge for anything but advice. A map of the area is 2 euro. So if you didn’t download and print one, go buy one. |
| | Since my time was limited and other people’s pages have pictures of the most popular buildings, I’ve decided to show a few other examples. When it comes to age, personality, and size, the buildings here have it!
If you like antique and junk shops, I much prefer Haarlem to Amsterdam. The shops are somewhat small, and you won’t find the high-end antiques. What you will find is some great deals on some of the less expensive antiques and vintage items. I am using the meanings of ‘antique’ being more than 100 years old and ‘vintage’ for anything less. |
| | I strongly suggest a good pair of walking shoes! Haarlem has some size to it, and unlike Amsterdam does not have trams. Don’t worry about getting lost, I did, and upholding the Dutch tradition of being friendly, people were more than happy to point me in the right direction. |

martin_nl Fri Jun 10, 2005 23:26 UTC Good tips about Haarlem. Glad you had a great time. Wide angle lense is a good thing to bring. Not are the buildings pretty big, but also the smaller buidlings can be difficult to photograph in a single shot, since the streets are so narrow... |
