Getting TO/AROUND: Flying out of CDG While the building is beautiful, pretty much easy to get round, the airport does have one major flaw. It’s boring! Since the general guideline for international travel is to be at the airport 3 hours before departure, this can cause some down time. With only a hand full of places to eat and even less shops, and no TVs , mini museums, or other activities. I would suggest bringing a good book and something to keep the kids entertained. This was a major disappointment! I felt like I was in an over grown regional airport rather than a major international. Airport management should visit Schiphol, now that’s an airport you can spend hours at and actually enjoy the wait.

Getting TO/AROUND: How to use your day pass... Put tab in front of turn style, REMOVE tab from top of turn style! Up until date, in my travels travel passes had always been cards that would be looked at by a human. So when the lady gave me a black card with an ID number in a protective plastic sleeve I assumed that was the pass. She also handed me a little tab of paper, but I didn’t ask what it was for. Within a few minutes I discovered what the tab of paper was used for, to enter the turn style. The lady in front of me, placed her tab in the machine, walked through and kept on going. So I did, as she did. When I arrived in town, I found myself stuck, for you needed a tab to leave through the turn style and I didn’t have one! After receiving a little help from a local, I went to the information desk thinking they could give me a new tab. After all I had my card and the sales slip showing I had just bought the 2 day pass less than 2 hours before. No such luck… lost forever. The second pass I bought the tab given to me in the special slot of the protective plastic sleeve and this time I knew what to do with it, and now so do you!

Driving: Thinking about driving around town?

Getting TO/AROUND: As for driving in the city, I have one word that sums it up… don’t! If you are the average American driver, DON’T!! Unless you are one of those strange people who loves misery, you don’t want to travel by car. Also there is no reason to, their transit system while a bit confusing at first, does work very well and can get you anywhere you want. I lost count of how many cars I saw with scratched bumpers and dented fenders. Do you really want to have to deal with the car rental company, about how you damaged their car? Of course I have a funny feeling they have a lot of practice with this topic of conversation. Just look at the picture, if it happened to him, what make you think you are any safer?

kenyneo Sun Jul 3, 2005 06:54 UTC Isnt Paris just beautiful ? Guess that is more or less the after-Paris syndrom ..lol | shrimp56 Tue Jun 28, 2005 12:53 UTC A thoroughly enjoyable page. And the note of good shoes is spot on -- but that's what cafes are for anyway :))) | morgane1692 Mon Jun 20, 2005 01:25 UTC Alas, lots of euros are required for many of the nicer things in Paris, but those neighborhood markets and cheese shops are fun to peruse nonetheless. Always happy to see another American who appreciates Paris though. Visit well, and visit often...;-) | hassan_abu Wed Jun 15, 2005 14:02 UTC Very helpful and great tips about Paris. I enjoyed reading it. Cheers, Abu |
