Goldsmiths and Silversmiths have lined both sides of the Ponte Vecchio since the 15th century. Today the shops on the Ponte Vecchio are jewelry stores carrying fine gold jewelry and coral jewelry.

Name of Shop: Loggia del Mercato Nuovo (o del Porcellino)
Open air market in a loggia with about 2 dozen stalls and vendors. Built 1547-1551 by Giovanni Battista del Tasso. The market is locally known as the ‘Porcellino' (swine) because of the fountain by Pietro Tacca, 1612. Be sure to rub Il Porcellino's nose. Legend has it that if you rub his nose, you will return to Florence.
