Western Finland is the most wide-ranging slice of Finland. Geographically, Western Finland comprises an approximately 650 km coastal strip from Rauma to Oulu.
The landscapes vary from the desert archipelago, maritime coastline and peaceful countryside to Finland's southernmost fells.
The most typical Western Finland landscape is low-lying plains, where farmlands, broad fields and settlements are concentrated along riverbanks. This is South Ostrobothnia.
I've dedicated my Länsi-Suomi pages to Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothia, since there aren't such places in VT database.

| | Why visit? Why should tourists come to South Ostrobothnia? Finland is much more than Helsinki, and if you want to see the other part of Finland, the more authentic one, you should consider South Ostrobothnia. Since South Ostrobothnia is a rural area, renting a car is the best option to move around. If you're into sports, cycling is a great way to experience Finnish landscape! There are many good cycling maps and guides about Finland and also about South Oshrobothia. Take a look at my travel tips! If you want to see young Finnish people partying, come to Provinssirock. Tango festival is more mature stuff. From Helsinki it takes less than 4 hours to get to Seinäjoki and from Tampere less than 2 hours (by train). There are not many attractions here, so for thrill-seekers this is not the right place. But for nature-lovers and those who seek for peace South Ostrobothnia is worth a visit. To get the most authentic taste of a Finnish summer, rent a summer cottage. >> Tourist Service>> Seinäjoki>> Provinssirock>> Tangomarkkinat..

| | Culture South Ostrobothnia has a strong cultural identity. It is known for tango, rock, opera and sports: Finnish baseball and wrestling. |

Länsi-Suomi sivusi on oikein mielenkiintoinen, olen itsekin alkujaan lännestä, tosin etelämpää Vammalasta. | Zvrlj Mon Jul 17, 2006 21:28 UTC I have seen Tapio Wirkkala exhibition in Belgrade.
