The Bluegrass State conjures images of horses silhouetted by the sunset in rolling green pastures, jockeys mounting horses as spectators donning ostentatious hats sip mint juleps, old hillbillies strumming banjos and singing with that southern twang, and brings thoughts of the infamous Kentucky Derby ,where for one day out of the year, the state becomes the subject of intense national media attention.
I have held all of those iconic associations as well, but had the great fortune of having lived in Louisville for 8 months and visiting endlessly. I hope through the constant expansion of this page I can draw you deeper into the Southern charm as both an outsider looking in ( I'm an Indianapolis native) and as a true insider with all the local insight. |

hindu1936 Sat Mar 17, 2007 01:31 UTC the firewords sound great, but are they on the weekend before the derby or the day before or...? | nicolaitan Thu Nov 16, 2006 18:36 UTC Dining has come a long way since I left Louisville in 1968. We had Grimaldi's and Bauer's and Tad's $1.99 steaks. The only Chinese restaurant in town went broke because nobody would eat it. Doing better now - great. | VinTolucci Tue Jun 20, 2006 22:21 UTC The Bluegrass State, cozy home you have there, nice pics. | RickinDutch Tue Jun 20, 2006 18:36 UTC So much for just having a salad for lunch:( Thanks a lot! Seriously, great restaurant section! |
