Ho Chi Minh City Hotel Tips by yuet29

I reached Pham Ngu Lao ( read as "fam ngao lao" in vietnamese), the backpacker's district in HCMC at around 4:30pm. After much asking and bargaining for the accomodation price.. I am a bit frustrated because I cannot find a US3 room.

At last I found this place, Hoang Yen GH in a small alley from Do Quang Dau. The person incharged are 2 youngsters who know only little english. Well, the price for a night is US4 (shared bath room with breakfast). A small room.. it actually cannot be considered as a room, I never see such a small room in reality.. only in TV.. where a married couple is so poor that they moved into a room where when they open their bedroom, the first step they step in the room is already their bed.. bingo! yes.. this is where i stay.. no pavement for walking, open the door and the bed is here.. surprisingly plus a TV!

I called the person incharged, hey, I dont want the TV, US3 a night?! He shake his head, no no no..

Unique Qualities: Clean.. you can expected.. the room is too small.. even cannot accomodate for an extra cockroach.. pity ..

This is the 'friendly GH' stated in lonely planet. I was here looking for room but all single rooms are fulled. So I politely asked if I can take a look on the dormitory. They smile, very friendly say yes yes.. After I saw the room.. arhkk not satisfied. So I wish to leave and suddenly thought of give my vietnamese friend a call. So I asked the person: do you know where can I make a phone call?
Walau the person turned fierce and said: u dun wan the room and now u ask for phone call? =S

*^#$& .Before i left her GH i saw the sign- friendly GH, i pei!

The ground level of this GH is a travel agency. The room costs US4 with private bathroom but no breakfast provided. The room is big with full furnished. Very comfortable.

It looks clean but still free one dead cockroach in the morning.. even then, for the same price, this room is far far far better than the Hoang Yen GH which offer a twin-size-bed single room(in 1st accom. tips).
