Kek Lok Si - Penang
Kek Lok Si Kek Lok Si (Buddhist) Temple Review

For foreigner they dont have much comment on Kek Lok Si; for some people from north peninsular malaysia like ngcss may comment that he doesnt like Kek Lok Si.

I think this is very personal. Kek Lok Si is a 'tourist' place where you can buy 'penang' t-shirt, handicraft, hats and sun glasses along the way up to the temple. Remember to bargain hard.

Entrance to Kek Lok Si is free except the top part. You need to pay RM2 for the top part of the temple.

There are cable car under construction to go to the middle of the hill for the standing 'Kuan Yin'. It was proposed to start service during mid 2005.

Komtar - Penang
Komtar KOMTAR Review

Komtar used to be a hot spot for hanging around with frineds a few years ago. However, after the Penang government moved their development focus to more outskirt places(exp Bukit Jambul, Onestop, Gurney Plaza), Komtar had been abandoned.

However, the town is now re-energized by Praingin Mall and yet to be constructed Times Square.

Old houses - Penang
Old houses Colonial old houses Review

Colonial old houses are one of the unique attraction in Penang. These houses contribute to the heritage of Georgetown.

Previously, for those house owners that didnt stay in the town, their houses are rented out with a very low price (may be never adjusted for several years). An act was approced a few years ago where the house owners now have right to increase the rent to a reasonable price- which actually cannot afford by the residence. So, many people who stayed there are forced to move out. The houses are blank.

Nowadays, some of the houses became the drug addictor palace.

Gurney Drive Hawker Centre - Penang
Gurney Drive Hawker Centre Gurney Drive (sea-watch & hawker food) Review

The stalls at gurney starts at around 5pm. This is the easiest found spot for the tourist to get penang food but, the food are not the best that penangites will purposely go for.

If you want to try penang laksa.. gosh.. there are a number of it and you never know which one is better.. (the situation applicable for other hawker food)

A fast try of penang food in gurney are: penang laksa, cendol, lok-lok, pasumbur, rojak

A thing to take note is, those tables and chairs belong to the drink stalls owners and seperated into different 'authorities'. So if you sit on the table belong to a sugar cane stall you have to drink sugar cane ..

Directions: Gurney

Ferry

Ferry services is still operating although the Penang Bridge was completed. The conveniency of Penang Bridge taken out the relaxing moment on the ferry. My friends from other states who study in university science of malaysia in penang always have romantic imagination/thinking about the ferry services. Many of them purposely go to try out the ferry service in an easy saturday afternoon.

Hop on any of the bus to the town will finally bring you to the port. The journey is short, within 1/2 hours you will get the the opposite side, Butterworth. Nothing much to see. If you are taking train here is the way, else you have to take the ferry back to the island.

The journey back charges RM0.60 for the service of an adult.

I will jump from the bridge. PENANG BRIDGE Review

This is a real story. People stay in penang island needs to travel by ferry to get to the other side of the main land a few years ago.

One year, a member of legislative body in penang proposed to build a bridge across two pieces of land. This proposal was treated as a joke by the opposition and the opposition said: if you could build the bridge, i will jump from the bridge!

Now the bridge is here giving conveniency to people from both sides, this story was forgotten by most of the people except my mother at home..haha
