Ggantija Megalitic Temples

by edinka - last update: Nov 11, 2004

Ggantija Temples were built 3600 BC so with its 5000 years those are ones of the oldest buildings in the world. As of today, they are mostly ruins remained from the temples at 1/3rd of the original heights. That is still a question how those huge stones (some of them are more than 1 ton) could be built together. One of the theories is that the stones were transported on triangle-shaped wedges.
The place is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage.

Great pics! A funny thing but when I was to Malta I did not find time to visit this place ;-)
