In 1873, Prince Carol of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, who had come to Romania's throne in 1866, started the building of the Peles Castle in Sinaia, after the drawings of the architect Wilhelm Doderer of the German school of architecture. After 1876 the building site was entrusted to Johannes Schultz. The official inauguration took place in October 1883, but the building operations werw continued with transformations and extensions carried out between 1893-1914 by the architect Karel Liman who finished the works in the German neo-Renaissance style, dominated by vertical sharp profiles, fragmented composition of the facades, abundance of carved wood and decorative elements. |
