  • Fondest Memory: Here on this map you can find the population density of the African countries.
As you can see, Nigeria, Rwanda, Burundi are the most dense populated countries.
And in the dessert areas as the Sahara you'll find almost no people.

    General Tips: Game Drive

  • Favorite Thing: Game drives are the most common way to observe the African wildlife. You can book an all inclusive safari and the drives will be conducted by experienced, accredited guides. But you can also rent your own vehicle and arrange a self drive Safari( which are much cheaper when you’re with a small group). In most of the African parks you’ll need to hire a local guide, but in the smaller ones you can go your own way. Most of the game drives start in the early morning or late afternoon and will last for 3-4 hours.

    General Tips: Walking Safari

  • Favorite Thing: Of all the different ways of doing a safari, the walking safari is the most exiting one. You encounter the local wildlife without the protection of a vehicle, but always accompanied by a well trained ranger, who knows the dangers of the bush. Most of the walks start early in the morning or in the late afternoon and they’re relatively cheap(for example, a walking safari in Ghana costs less than 1 euro/hour) compared with the other safaris.

    General Tips: Balloon Safari
  • Tip Rating:

  • Favorite Thing: You can experience the excitement of game viewing from a hot air balloon in the crisp air of dawn. Balloons lift off just before sunrise when the breeze on the plains is still cold, the balloon is blown by the prevailing winds across the landscape. The flight above the plains is quite silent, the only sound you’ll hear is the hiss of the burners. After a while you decent and have some champagne, you receive the bill(+/-350 euro/pers, this is one of the most expensive safaris!!!) and drive back to your sleeping facilities.

    General Tips: Harmattan Winds

  • Favorite Thing: Harmattan means "North Wind" in Hausa.
Cool, dry winds which originate in the Sahara and blow throughout much of West Africa during the dry season(November->March).
They bring with them dust from the Sahara and make the air hazy and unclear.

    General Tips: Arabic language

  • Favorite Thing: For most of the people the Arabic language could be a major problem.
    Luckily they translate almost everything.
Though most of the price labels are only in Arabic, but I know why!
You'd better learn the Arabic digits/ciphers before you leave, so you always know what to pay before you buy it.

General Tips: Odours in the forest

  • Favorite Thing: During my last trip in Cameroon I was confronted with something we unlearned during the centuries. OUR SMELL, we can recognise strong and specific odours, but when my Baka (pygmy) guide stopped and told me we were approaching gorillas I thought he was joking. No way! He was right, they can smell animals. He proofed it several times during the expedition, gorillas, buffalos, antelopes, I was speechless. There are no better animal trackers than Bakas.
