Hola a todos y bienvenidos a mi pagina de VT!
Ciao a tutti e benvenuti nella mia VT Homepage!
Hello everybody and welcome at my VT Homepage.

Here you'll find a few European places, but mainly African destinations and Belgian ECO-Hotspots.
(nature reserves, wildlife reserves, forest reserves,The Belgian Serengeti, etc..).
So when you're interested in consuming culture or city trips, you're at the wrong address.
There're other VT members with magnificent and accurate Belgium pages.
But when you're planning a walking vacation in Belgium's most tranquil and green areas.
THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!

I was nine years old when Toto had the number one hit 'Africa".
At that time I didn't understand that much English, but it was such a fantastic and fascinating song.
Someone who blessed the rains in Africa, why are they so different than the Belgian rains?
Several years ago started the journey southwards , I did some research and found the perfect destination
CAMEROON III
I arranged my visa, packed my backpack and let my doctor inject all the necessary vaccinations.
I went to the airport and left with the intention to travel, explore and enjoy the African way of life.
It was my first big journey, but it changed my life drastically. I was impressed and fascinated by the African continent, I always return.
When you're also interested in some of these destinations and you've got a question just ask it.
I'll help you where I'm able.

GREETZ
Ian Vandingelen

Here you find a list of the African countries I've visited.

GHANA III West Africa
CAMEROON III Central Africa
IVORY COAST West Africa
KENYA East Africa
NIGERIA West Africa
SENEGAL II West Africa
TANZANIA East Africa
THE GAMBIA II West Africa
EGYPT North Africa
TUNISIA North Africa
MOROCCO North Africa

AFRICA

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, "Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you"

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had

Toto

TRAVEL TIP

When you've got the opportunity to combine your traveling with some jobs as an eco-volunteer.
YOU SHOULD DO IT.
- You'll come at places that no other travelers will see.
- Your chances to spot the local wildlife increase with 50 percent
- It will lower your costs.
- You'll meet very interesting people, with the same thoughts and ideas as you and those you won't meet as a tourist.

THESE ARE REASONS ENOUGH TO CONSIDER IT..

Hi Ian - lpfaye here. You posted a reply to my "Solo woman traveler has concerns" question. Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I also replied to Cathy (see below) who you also addressed in your reply to me. (This way I don't have to repeat myself too much.) In any case - after Googling Uganda I see that they are having trouble with terrorist activity from extremist organizations (al-Shabaab). It also specifically states that solo women travelers are at risk for violence. So now I'm thinking that Uganda may not be such a good alternative to Cameroon after all.
But I am very interested in your suggestion of renting a car with a driver to accompany me on my journey. That sounds like a great idea, and may be the solution to my concerns. I've tried Googling the possibilities for finding such an arrangement, but I'm not quite sure how to decipher the results. Can you recommend a specific company, or place to look for renting a car & driver.
Thank you so much for your time & consideration in addressing my post.
    All best, Lynn Paula

Hi Cathy - lpfaye here. You posted a reply to my "Solo woman traveler has concerns" question. Thank you so much for your thoughtful, interesting reply - it was in fact very helpful. Although I must say Ian's comments about Cameroon next to your comments are a bit confusing - but you both have given me a lot to consider.
To answer your question, I have only traveled in peaceful African countries (South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe (a little), Kenya (before the violence started), and Senegal. I have always traveled alone, with only a general, flexible game plane - playing it by ear. (Never an organized tour - unless it was a day trip.) I don't know anyone in Cameroon, and I do not speak French. All that, (and taking into account my age) does seem to set me up as an easy target. Especially since you (a much younger & much more seasoned African traveler) would not travel alone in Cameroon as a tourist. But Uganda is a very interesting suggestion. I had no idea that it was a more traveler-friendly country! And it would meet my general criteria for the type of place I'd like to visit, so that is definitely something I will consider & investigate.
The other thing I will consider is Ian's suggestion for Cameroon of renting a car with a driver (and I'd stick to the western provinces).
All-in-all both your & Ian's comments have been extremely helpful, and I truly appreciate all of the feedback. It was very nice of you to consider my question so sincerely, and to volunteer so much insight re my concerns.
Thank you. All best. Lynn Paula
