I've grown up in a suburb of Detroit my whole life called Allen Park. When I was younger my mom and I would catch the bus from Thunderbowl and go downtown to eat lunch and ride the people mover. That whole fear people have of Detroit, I don't have it. When I was 19 I got a job working in Detroit on the 18th floor of the Fisher Building. That's when I really started to see the city the way I do now. It really is a great place. There are many other "big cities" to visit in the US but Detroit has some great places to go and great things to see and do. I don't really feel like Detroit gets the credit it deserves. Don't get me wrong, there's room for improvement but name a city that doesn't have that room -- Detroit just might have a bit more room than most!! :)
I've attend Wayne State University which is in Detroit as well as worked in Renaissance Center for a year or so. I've spent a large amout of time in the city and know my way around pretty good. There's things about the city I hate, but there's a good amount of stuff I love. I love when we get to come down here for dinner. There's a never ending supply of great places to eat! And while DTE (fka Pine Knob) is a great place to see a concert there's nothing like the State or St. Andrew's when you've got a big name playing!
When I was 16 I got my 1st taste of travel. I went to Boston with an Irish Football team I was playing on. After that trip all I wanted to do was go to places. It didn’t really matter where, we could even stay in Michigan, I just wanted to go.
I've grown up a bit since then and I've done a little more traveling, not as much as I hoped to have done back when I was 16. Looking at others homepages I see that I've got a lot of catching up to do. So far my tally is 5 foreign countries, 8 states, & Washington D.C.
It beaks down like this -- I’ve been to California, Nevada, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Florida and South Carolina. I’ve driven through many other states but I don’t really count being there because I didn’t get to enjoy anything that the state had to offer other than the highway and the occasional rest stop. I've been to Cozumel and El Progresso, Mexico. I honeymooned in St. Lucia. Spent a day in Belieze. In Canada I’ve visited Toronto, Niagara Falls and Windsor. In Australia I stayed in Perth. And I’ve been to Washington D.C.
My grandparents are from Nova Scotia, so I've always wanted to go there. I’ve heard the stories, seen the pictures, now I’m ready to head up there. Hopefully next time grandma and grandpa are on their way I can hitch a ride.
I’ve never been to New York or Los Angeles. Both places I think are a must for experienced U.S. traveler. I think I might be able to make it to New York this year. As for L.A., not sure where that will happen but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
I really want to see the Grand Canyon.
I want to go to Africa and go on a safari. I want to stay on one of the reserves and take care of baby elephants. I’m working on becoming a journalist; with hopes of one day working for National Geographic. Africa is the place I want to be when that dream comes true.
Finally, I would love to get the opportunity to go to Ireland. I have a bit of family over there and would love to get over there and learn even more about the heritage my grandparents have shared with me.
Well there’s about a million others places but really I can’t list them all so that’s the list of my top 5 things/places I really want to see. I know there are more than 5 places but o’well, it’s my list right, I can call it what ever I want.
