City of dive bars, design, and edgy folks After living in Philadelphia for two years, I was sad to leave. I didn't start out liking the city--having grown up in western Pennsylvania, I was predisposed to dislike the city...especially after experiencing the airport's delay and general surliness.
However, especially once I moved to Center City, my entire perspective changed. The best part of this city is its neighborhoods, its local bars, restaurants, and shops, and the edginess that pervades its streets. Not as polished as Boston, not as confident as New York, and not as brassy as DC, Philadelphia is a thoroughly enjoyable gritty place--just don't be afraid to dive right in. |

RickinDutch Fri Aug 24, 2007 18:17 UTC I used to get sent to Philly from L.A. for a couple of weeks every summer to stay with relatives. 100F and 100% humidity. Lots of good memories tho. Birthday greetings from Alaska! | mturkkan Thu Aug 24, 2006 14:29 UTC Happy birthday from Antalya | hunterV Sun Jun 11, 2006 08:03 UTC Hi, Allison, you're right about those great dining and coffee places... Splendid! | Jetgirly Fri Jun 9, 2006 08:04 UTC There's something quite cartoonish about the facades of Tampopo and Cafe Habana as you've photographed them. They look like they belong in Toontown or something! |
