Things To Do: The Cathedral Organ

There's more than one organ inside the cathedral, but one in particular drew my attention. It has an unusual configuration of the organ pipes, and was so striking framed by the marble pillars. You can see there's some very impressive, detailed woodwork throughout the church, too. I saw more beautiful woodwork in German churches than I have elsewhere. If only I could have heard this organ being played while we were here!

The Freiburg Trade House ( Kaufhaus) used to be the administrative headquarters for the market held in the cathedral square. It has very colorful turrets and statues of past German rulers, and was built in the early 1500's. The market is still here, with fresh fruits, vegetables, grilled sausages, cheese, flowers, and crafts. It operates daily except for Sundays and holidays.
