My Favorite Hawai'ian Island

I Love Turtles

And the turtles, of course...
all the turtles are free
As turtles, and maybe,
all creatures should be.

by Dr. Seuss

What I love about the Big Island of Hawaii is its super diverse landscape, along with all the different plants and animals that go with it, from sea turtles to cattle to geckos. We even ran into a herd of wild goats when we were hiking, which was totally unexpected! A colorful little gecko was living in the mailbox of the beachhouse we rented, and I loved that.

Hilo is the wettest place on earth(!), but the west side of the island is dry as a bone and black with lava fields. There's snow on Mauna Kea, and grasslands with rich red dirt roads around Waimea.
Not to mention Volcanoes National Park. And BEACHES! You always have the option of relaxing, every single day, at the beach, snorkeling or watching the waves and the surfers. I like this island because a lot of it is rural and undeveloped. I'm not into big "resorts" at all. We traded off snorkelling and hiking every other day - perfect!

Pros:"very diverse landscapes to explore; snorkeling; turtles, geckos, whales"
Cons:"I don't have enough time to do everything I want to do here!"
In A Nutshell:"the Hawai'ian island with the most to offer"

The Parker Ranch sounds like a cool experience and the Big Island looks like it's packed w/ plenty of natural splendor.
