Easter, Ice Cream, &the House of Furstenberg | Does this guy look German or what? |
More than anything else, Donaueschingen makes me think of "The Wolfman", my sister's boyfriend, who generously put us up in his flat here. We were the recipients of his wonderful German hospitality. He's a very fun and interesting guy to chat with!
Donaueschingen is a small town in the Black Forest region of Germany, just 18 miles from the Swiss border. From here we ventured out to Freiburg, Meersburg, Konstanz, the Rhein Falls in Switzerland, and Strasbourg, France, all of which are fairly close. |
| | One thing I noticed is they really get into Easter here. I got the impression that most of Southern Germany does. It seemed like every single store window had some sort of Easter display, even hardware stores, optometrists, etc., and decorated Easter eggs were hanging from trees everywhere. Southern Germany is mostly Catholic.
There's a castle here, thanks to the local artistocratic family, the Furstenberg's. Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit it this trip, but I did make time to try the Furstenberg beer - it's very good! |
This is a sculpture of some musicians - it's on a main corner downtown by the town hall, right in front of Vivaldi's ice cream parlor. | | |
