It goes without saying that the Bellagio is a luxury hotel. Its opulence is famous worldwide. But there were a few things about it that we felt did not measure up to either its reputation or our expectations. First off, the line to check in was abominable. After 5 hours on a plane we had to drag our luggage through the lobby for over an hour to get our room. Secondly, the ammenities could have been better. For example, if you are paying over $200 a night for a room you should not be charged $2 for an extra mini bottle of shampoo, nor should you have to pay to use the exercise equipment in the gym. Also, and this is a big pet peeve of mine, there were NO BATHROBES. I'm at the Bellagio; I want a damn bathrobe.
Happily, there were also many things about the Bellagio that were great. It is one of the most beautiful and elegant places I have ever stayed. The indoor gardens were stunning and the pool area even more so. Our room was perfect with its cozy king size bed and we loved the bathroom, made entirely of Italian marble complete with whirlpool bath and his and hers sinks.
Unique Qualities: There were several things about the Bellagio that I loved. One of them was the pool area. It is exclusive to guests and the foliage and trees surrounding its 8 pools make privacy easy even among hundreds of people. The pool area cafe was one of my favorites, as there is really something to be said for being served an elegant meal while in your bathing suit surrounded by beautiful things.
The casino here is also exceptional. Though we don't really gamble we found it to be very quiet compared to most. It also has an air filtration system that makes cigarette smoke almost undetectable, which was a big plus for us and a definate advantage over other casinos.
Another favorite of ours was the piano bar located in the casino. Here they serve the famous Bellagio Cocktail, a concoction of champagne and passion fruit that you could drink all day long. I still crave them and have never been able to duplicate the recipe, though I have tried.
