Visby, Sweden is on the island of Gotland which is the largest island in the Baltic, 60 miles east of the Swedish mainland. The city dates back to the 9th century when it was once a viking settlement. The old, medieval city is surrounded by a huge wall that was orignally built in the 13th century. There are many medieval buildings and churches here as well, many of which are still used today. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its age and historic significance.

Visby is a hot summer vacation destination for Swedes. The city has beautiful beaches and many lovely cottages that are covered in roses. There are several restaurants and shops here that are fun to visit as well as many museums and historic sites.

What a charmer! I agree w/ you about the cafes and "man watching". The little cottages would enchant me as well. Bet you have even more pics of those little beauties. Thanks for a nice little trip.

Em, how fortunate you are to have traveled all the way to Sweden! Paul's heritage is Swedish, ja sure dontcha know. Excellent page and photos.
