Trondheim was founded in 997 AD by King Olav Tryggvason, making it the oldest city in Norway. It was also from here that Leiv Eiriksson started out when he discovered North America in about 1000 AD.
Trondheim is Norway's third largest city with about 150.000 citizens (30.000 of these are students, so it's a very "young" and vibrant city).
Situated by the Trondheim fjord, it is surrounded by lovely forested hills, with the Nidelva river winding through the town.
It is a modern city with one of the best research communities in Europe. |
