The cats in Bali often have half of a tail or a "kinked" tail because it is a common local belief that evil spirits travel in straight lines. With a kinked, or half tail, the evil spirits are unable to enter and posses the cat.

I think it is to sgow that he does't work in the fields. It could also mean he picks his nose too! We may never know for sure.
