A Hidden Jewel in Eastern Europe

by balisunshine - last update: May 8, 2005

A Place to Discover

Sunset at Dubrvnik
Sitting at this cafe,
under these bushy trees,
escaping from the summer heat,
while listening to the crickets sing,
I share with you some travel tips
on this hidden jewel,
known as Croatia.

A country not very well known
in the far west,
is a secret well kept to mostly Europeans and sailboats drifting by.

I guess we could say the hardest part is getting here.
But once you have landed,
the emerald,
crystal clear Adriatic Sea
lined by medieval towns
and villages
await you here.

One could stay in fancy hotels
or better yet,
be hosted at the Sobe Zimmers
in the homes of locals,
which are well
equipped apartments
cheaply priced from $30-$50 a day.

You may opt to cook or
taste the various, delightful, fresh sea food platters
that go for $5 - $30 a plate.

Many blond beauties walk through the maze of narrow.
cobble stone paths in these historic, medieval towns
making me wonder,
why some big modeling agency hasn't come down
to do their castings here.

The people are nice
and it is very safe here.
But we seem to only recall
the long war 10 years ago
of the former Yugoslavia,
which divided itself into
5 different countries.

How lucky Croatia has been,
to inherit the majority of the coastline,
even though one can still find the essence of destruction
of an old building here and there.

But despite of this,
one hears of an European
looking to buy a good deal in real estate.

The local ferries are a means of transportation to some
of Croatia's 1185 islands that parallel it's coast.

But if you are up to it,
getting on a private sailboat traveling around the Mediterranean
at about $25 a day,
may be a great choice.

Just make sure you are willing to participate
with the cooking, cleaning and sailing of course!

And so my friends,
I share with you
all of these words,
so to open a window,
on another spot,
on this earth.
