Sitting at this cafe, under these bushy trees, escaping from the summer heat, while listening to the crickets sing, I share with you some travel tips on this hidden jewel, known as Croatia.
A country not very well known in the far west, is a secret well kept to mostly Europeans and sailboats drifting by.
I guess we could say the hardest part is getting here. But once you have landed, the emerald, crystal clear Adriatic Sea lined by medieval towns and villages await you here.
One could stay in fancy hotels or better yet, be hosted at the Sobe Zimmers in the homes of locals, which are well equipped apartments cheaply priced from $30-$50 a day.
You may opt to cook or taste the various, delightful, fresh sea food platters that go for $5 - $30 a plate.
Many blond beauties walk through the maze of narrow. cobble stone paths in these historic, medieval towns making me wonder, why some big modeling agency hasn't come down to do their castings here.
The people are nice and it is very safe here. But we seem to only recall the long war 10 years ago of the former Yugoslavia, which divided itself into 5 different countries.
How lucky Croatia has been, to inherit the majority of the coastline, even though one can still find the essence of destruction of an old building here and there.
But despite of this, one hears of an European looking to buy a good deal in real estate.
The local ferries are a means of transportation to some of Croatia's 1185 islands that parallel it's coast.
But if you are up to it, getting on a private sailboat traveling around the Mediterranean at about $25 a day, may be a great choice.
Just make sure you are willing to participate with the cooking, cleaning and sailing of course!
