Replica Inn Hotel: Checking out early at Replica Inn
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • I had discovered this hotel
back at home via the internet.
I had tried e-mailing them a couple of times,
    but they never responded.

    To play it safe,
    I booked only one night.

    When I got there,
    I was asked to leave
    a deposit for 200 MYR.

    The hotel is centrally located
    in the Bukit Bintang,
    walking distance from
    all the commercial shops.

But it is also off the main street
where a lot of smelly, cheap eats are.

    As a female traveling alone,
I didn’t really feel that safe there.

So, definitely bring a locked suitcase,
    to put away all valuables.

The room is dead simple and basic.
    But generally clean,
with a view of the windows
    of another building.

The bathroom is even more basic,
with fungus growing on the shower curtain.

The water heater only provided luke warm water,
    and the toilet wasn’t working.

    During the night,
I could hear everyone who spoke in the corridor
    and even my neighbors who
were staying in the adjacent room.

Then in the middle of the night,
    someone opened my door,
but luckily I had the lock bar on,
    so they didn’t come in.

Since I didn’t really feel happy here,
I went ahead and walked around the corner
on the main street to scout out other hotels
    and decided that I would
    check out the following morning.

    Early next morning when
    I went to check out
and receive the remaining total of my deposit,
I noticed they were charging me
more than what was stated on the internet.

Mind you, I had a confirmed rate and reservation sheet
of which I provided to the man at the reception,
    and then he started arguing
that the rates were different on the weekends.

So, we got into a lengthy conversation on
why is it that they quote one rate
    and then charging another.

He then took out several sheets of papers,
which included copies of the e-mails that I had sent
and that they had never replied.

Finally, after 20 minutes or so
    of discussion,
    he finally gave me
    the total to be refunded.

If you’re on a tight budget,
and don’t really care for security and comfort,
this can be a hotel to consider because of its location.

But if you have a little bit more of cash to spend,
stay around the corner at one of the better hotels.

Unique Qualities: Centrally located in Bikt Bintang

Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur: VERY Pleased at The Federal Hotel Compare Rates
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • After being disappointed
at another hotel around the corner,
I was so glad to be able to
move over to the Federal Hotel.

This is a large hotel available
for corporate groups and tourist groups.
In KL, there isn’t a large choice of boutique hotels,
so basically you need to consider the jump
to 4 and 5 star hotels after the budget hotels.

    This hotel is conveniently located
    in the Bukit Bintang area.

You can try checking in directly
    at the reception desk,
but you will probably find better rates
    and promotions at their web-site.

There are all the perks that
one would find in one of the
expensive hotels in a western country
at a fraction of the price.

    This includes,
mini-bar, cable TV, a phone in the bathroom,
swimming pool, an iron and board, safe,
    good quality mattresses, clean carpeting,
all the accessories are provided in the bathroom,
including a tooth brush, etc. etc.

Also, being a female traveling solo,
I felt safe within the premises.

    I definitely recommend this hotel.
