About the Magic

I have said,

"If I were economically settled,
with a good man by my side,
I would live in Uluwatu."

And it is said,

"Watch what you wish for,
it may just come true."

Well, I am not living there just yet,
but I spent plenty of time there.

I have fallen in love with
Uluwatu's sloping hillsides
leading into majestic cliff fronts,
falling into all different shades of blues
of the refreshing sea of forceful currents ,
and finishing the day with a magical sunset.

That endless horizon!

It is a place where
the passionate lovers of nature,
wait for those tunneling waves,
to take them on an ecstatic ride.

A long time haven for surfing globetrotters,
it is quickly flourishing into a high end
vacation destination with property prices souring
to great heights like its waves,
turning Uluwatu into
the new Beverly Hills of Bali.

About the Development

Certain areas are being called,
"Millionaires Row" developing
homes that cost in the 7 figures
and multimillion dollar hotel projects
are springing up like the Bulgari Hotel.

But will Uluwatu develop
so far high in it's ranks of
a elite destination that
it will loose its charming,
rustic, grassroots feeling?

Is it a blessing or is it a curse?

Then again,
nothing is permanent in this life.
Nor in this world

Out of all this development,
jobs will be created for
the Balinese people of this region.

Hopefully taxes will be managed correctly
to create a public infrastructure that works.

But where will all the surfers go?

What was once considered
as a economical destination,
may soon be overwhelmed with
5-star hotels and luxury property prices.

And so I go back to what I originally said,

"If I were economically settled,
with a good man by my side,
I would like to live in Uluwatu."

"Watch what you wish for,
it may just come true."

This makes me so sad about Dreamland, I stayed there in 2004 and 2006 when it was a surfers paradise, I'm glad i saw it before now ....
