Kalgoorlie and its sister town Boulder are WA's gold towns. The rush started back in 1839 when a prospector found gold lying around on the surface. Nowadays the gold is mined on a large industrial scale. Have a look at the enormous Super Pit, the largest open cut gold mine in Australia. It will be 3,8 km long, 1,35 km wide and 500m deep when completed. You also sound miss the Mining Hall of Fame where you can visit an old underground goldmine and wash gold yourself. Another feature of Kalgoorlie is the beautiful pub architecture, especially along Hannan Street. |
