Wat Pho was rerected in 1789 and hence is Bangkok's oldest temple. It is home to the famous reclining Buddha statue which is 46m long and 15m high. The feet are decorated with beautiful mother-of-pears inlays. You'll see many pilgrims walking around the statue and donate small coins into bowls which line the walls. The temple is also home to a monastery and a famous massage school. A 1 hr Thai massage costs 360 THB and you also can take massage classes here.

The Golden Mount is an artificially created hill (about 70m high) which gets its name from the golden Chedi on top. It's also part of an important Buddhist temple, the Wat Saket. The construction of the Golden Mount was completed in 1865 and in 1877 it received its most important relic, a Buddha tooth. You can walk up to the pagoda and enjoy splendid views over Bangkok.

Khao San Road has been the meeting point for backpackers from all over the world for many years. Here you find everything you might possibly need: cheap accommodation, great street food, travel agencies, souvenirs & jewellery shops, tailors, massage parlor, yoga studios... At night lots of "minibars" open on the street where you can buckets full of Thai whiskey, coke and whatever. But Khao Road has changed quite a lot over the years, these days you find American coffee shops and fast food outlets here aswell a some mid-range hotels.
