Just take a walk around Amsterdam and enjoy the views. Lovely old buildings, nice peaceful canals. It sure beats the busy hustle and bustle of the Damrak area and the RLD. When you need a rest just dip into a cafe or bar for some light refreshment.

If you have some free time while in Amsterdam be sure to check out the one of the many brown bars. They are mostly small cosy bars with a homely feel to them and have lots of character. They are literally all over Amsterdam so I'm afraid I can't give you any names but the smallest places almost always seem to be the friendliest. They usually have a wide range of beers, both Dutch and Belgian, with some being VERY strong so be careful! I had one called Duval which was something like 8.5%! Ha

Very beautiful building, I wasn't in Dam square too long on this trip so not sure if you can go inside. A nice area to people watch and get some nice pictures.
