Boston always occured to me as a very "un-American" city, maybe that is why I like it so much.
With its old and new buildings standing right next to each other (e.g. the Fauneil hall between the skyscrapers) it has a very special ambiance.
I got to know the "Bostonians" as some friendly, hard-working people with a very special "dress-style". It can be watched best in the morning around 8 and in the evening around 5. There you can see men and woman in (elegant) business suits and in casual shoes (nike, adidas, whatever) mostly white ones.... I found out, that they have their elegant shoes with them or leave them at work. I think it?s a clever solution, and a very practicable one.
In Boston you just HAVE to walk. It is not a matter of bad connections - the local transport system is working very well - but of attitude. And Boston is very nice to be viewed by foot, too.
Everywhere you can find plans on which are several possibilities for round-walks in the city. The most popular one is the Freedom Trail which is actually marked with a red line on the ground. Another one is the Harbour walk... or you can justcross the Charles River for a nice view of the city skyline.
Just do it, walk! - but don?t forget your Nikes! |
