Malta - a living museum

Fisher Boat in Malta
Malta
- a smaller island in the mediteranean sea right under Sicilia.

The many Monuments in this island are witnesses of a long and turbulent history.
There are tare cart ruts wich go back to the Bronze Age, there are temples wich are 1000 years older than the pyramids of Gizeh.
The Phoenicians left their traces as well as the Greeks, Carthagians and Romans. The Arabs were here and later the Normanns, the Order of the Johanniter built the heavy walls around Valetta.
Napoleon wanted to have the island, but the Malteser seeked for help in England, thats why you are driving on the left side of the street today.

And so the culture of this island is the real mixture of all the greater forces that were here in the Mediterranean sea. It mostly shows in the architecture, but also in the cuisine.

The picture shows a part of a boat. the eye is supposed to keep evil away

An interesting page! Every page on Malta that I have ever looked at paints an intriguing picture of the long history of this small island. Neat to see those old cart ruts!
