Every journey begins with one first step

by Myndo - last update: May 6, 2008

A new world traveller?

It's spring! (finally)
Our baby boy Simon was born on Dezember 28th 2006 and has since just brought joy into our lives... even if we do have a lot less sleep since then.
Since he is 13 months he can walk - and makes good use of it by running around whenever and wherever he can.

If you want to see more of him, look here
New pictures of our son you can see here
Family trip

Latest travels: Thailand with the family

We returned to Thailand in March 2008 for a first longer trip with our toddler. It was a big success: he enjoys travelling and doesn't mind flying either - as long as he is entertained by his parents. We took it a lot easier than in earlier years, only doing some day trips to the surrounding of Khao Lak. In the picture you can see us 3 - what you can't see is the elefant we are sitting on :-)
I will add some tips as soon as possible.

Tinos in Greece in fall 07 was our first holidays with our son Simon. We stayed at a pension that friends of us have there. Very family friendly and peaceful. You can see my tips about Tinos here: Tinos Island

Last holidays before our baby arrived was in the Maldives in Fall '06.
Just the thing, if you want to relax and have a good time. Also THE place to go for underwater experiences, be it diving or snorkeling.
You can find these pages here: the Maldives

Thailand in spring '06 was one of my more interesting travels. A wonderful destination, full of culture, wonderful landscapes, bathing under waterfalls, superb beaches, delicious food and drinks and whatever the heart wants. Well, my heart at least.
you can find the pages here: Central Thailand and here: Southern Thailand

and before that we were at our Honeymoon in Fall '05: Safari in Kenya
A Safari all over Kenya, part flying, part driving and much animal watching.
lion with prey - to eat and get eaten

About My Travels ....

Well, I suppose I inherited my love for travelling from my parents. They took us (me and my brother)around half of Europe in my childhood. First Camping, then with a Caravan.
France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Yugoslawia (when it still was one), Greece.
Later on we took bigger steps, went to Amerika (USA) 3 times.

Since then I am doing my own travelling, and I love it. My motto is: never say "No" to the opportunity to go somewhere else.
Africa is my newest "discovery".
.. I made some links to some pages (mostly those I liked best).

Africa

South Africa - 2000 from Jo'Burg to Capetown
Kenya - 2002
Tanzania - 2002 Best of Tanzania
Namibia - 2003 Selfdrive around Namibia

wonderful landscapes, wild animals, sometimes very bad roads, but always beautiful.
Kenya again 2005 (honeymoons). more Safari and all over the countryKenya Safari

By the way: I made the foto of this lioness on the safari in Tanzania. The Impala who was so unfortunate to fall prey to this preadators lived only 10 minutes before. The lion came right to our jeep to eat his part of it. Do you know how Impala-head sounds? ugh!

Australia

Australia was a dream I had since long. When a friend asked after we both had finished our studies whether I wanted to come along for some weeks, I spontaneously said "yes". I do not regret it. (and I really needed it, because my studies did not permit any bigger holidays during these 5 years).
From Adelaide to Cairns by Car - 1999, especially liked Fraser Island

The second one was longer prepared. A schoolfriend of me asked whether I would join her for a part of her travelling around in Australia. Since I already did the east cost, we made the west coast together.
From Perth to Broome by car, and the Center - 2001

What I want to do one day is the North. Maybe from Broome to Darwin or even over to Cairns. Must be very nice, too. I just have to take care that I don?t go in the rainy season.
James Bond Island
Asia

The culture of Asia always interested me.
As for now, I have Singapur and Thailand in my "pages". I had only 2 days in Singapur (flight back from Australia) and Phuket was the wish of my boyfriend, who likes to lie on the beach. I am more into seeing something from the country I am in, so I got him to make some excursions and trips with me. ...
yes, I know it?s not easy with me. ;-)

Singapur - 1999
Thailand, Phuket - 2002 Phuket
Thailand, Phuket - 2004

Thailand, Northern Part and Phuket again - 2005
Thailand, From Bangkok to Phuket with a rented car - 2006 Central Thailand
and here: Southern Thailand

Northern America

Amerika was always the "big" country over the ocean, where all these "so important things" for us kids came from: Coca Cola, Hamburgers, all these TV-Series etc. So I was very excited when we visited it the first time. I was not disappointed. The Nationalparks of California, Nevada, Utah were just amazing. We had to come back - and we did, 2 years later. This time travelling down the East Coast. And since there was still a lot to see: 2 years later the trip from West to East. That is when I first saw the Indian Summer in New England - and fell in love with it.
What follows is 2 times only New England (and Canada to extend it).
Once with my boyfriend then, once with a schoolfriend.

USA - San Francisco to Los Angeles through the Ntl Parks - 1989
USA - N.Y. to Miami by motorhome - 1991
USA - Denver to N.Y by motorhome: - 1993
USA - New England, Boston to N.Y. by car: 1997
Canada: Montreal to Boston (USA)- 1999
USA: N.Y: 2000

Europe

Between the bigger ones I also made some smaller "excursions":

Canal boating in northern France (1987)
Switzerland by Tandem (1990)
London, (1992)
Paris (1993)
School trip to Greece (1992)
Uni-Trip to Belgia (1995)
Scottland by Tandem (1999) Scotland Pages
Malta (2000)
Berlin (2002)
us

Just married....

Yes, 20th August 2005 was THE day.

I think it could not have been better.

For those who are interested, you can find pictures of it here wedding pics 2

May I present you: my hubby.

So sorry people, but as so many others, I am definitely not here for dating.
me in my hometown

Everything you never wanted to know about me :-)

So, having all the data about my "getting around", what could you else want to know?

I am Swiss, that makes me punctual, polite, neutral (well, most of the time...)

I am from Basel My hometown, a City right on the borders to France and Germany. Multicultural, wonderful for shopping, the rest you can read in my pages about it...

I am a Sagittarius, that makes me direct, communicative, a traveller (but you got that already, right?).
I am also born in the ascendent of Cancer ... which seems to take back most of the things said above.

I am a Woman, and I like it to be able to do all (and more .-) that men can do.

I was a volunteer Firefighter (until the birth of our baby), a Ski instructor and Baywatcher (ok, a pool is not a bay, but...)

and I am pharmacist. I love my job, it is something I would not give up. Also it gives us enough money not only to live, but also to travel a little bit.
Sofa on the move...

Moving - firefighter style :-)

Uhum, yes that is my sofa.
No, officer, I have no idea how it got into my flat in the first place ...
Could you help me?

No, letīs be earnest. Sometimes it is real good to be a firefighter and to have friends that help one moving the more aah, big things. Like this sofa. From the 3rd floor down. No lift. Very steep stairs, very few place.
So I got this glorious idea ...

And before you complain about tax payers money ... (no, the "big chief" does not know about it) - it was right after an official case and it took the 2 of us only 10 minutes. ... I suppose we know how to.

About my Albums

I used the space to write some tips and facts about health problems when on travelling.

Do not be scared off by them, since not only me, but thousands of travellers visit places all around the world without getting really sick once.

But one of the reasons why they did come home healthy is, that they were informed what could happen to them or at what to look out or how to be prepared.

These pages do not (NOT!) replace your visit to a doctor. Especially if you go farther away you will maybe need vaccination, antibiotics or malaria medication. All of them are on prescription only.

But I can give you some advice, if you need it. I am no doctor, only a pharmacist. Just mail me.

Hi Corinne, thanks for visiting my Norway page. I wish I could go back there too. Simon has grown so much he looks like a different baby now, but still as good-natured as ever.
