Birthplace of the industrial revolution
The Severn gorge near Ironbridge is where the industrial revolution started. This was the "silicon valley" of the 18th century and there are several museums in the area covering the different aspects of industrial development that started here.
The very first iron bridge is still standing - since 1779 - and looks good for another 200 years or so.
