"Sauble Beach on Lake Huron" Ontario by rexvaughan

Ontario Travel Guide: 34 reviews and 76 photos

Evidently Sauble Beach is not in the VT database, so I have put it here in the general Ontario page.

Sauble Beach is a small, attractive community on Lake Huron of only about 2000 permanent residents, but doubtless tens of thousands during the peak season. It is a resort community and many of the homes or cottages are owned by non-residents.
There is a huge (11 kilometers long) and very nice beach along the lake and the locals proudly will tell you that it was voted the #1 freshwater beach in Canada and that it is the second longest freshwater beach in the world. At any rate, it seems to be a great draw for families and the action of the water and the sand bars makes it fairly shallow and warm. (I wouldn?t suggest testing this in January, however.) The local chamber of commerce also brags about the brilliant sunsets over the lake, and I can confirm that they are really beautiful.
We were here for a family wedding and it couldn?t have been a better wedding, reception, location, weather. The bride?s parents own a cabin on the beach and set up for the reception in a tent on the front lawn. See my travelogue for photos, etc. about the wedding and reception.
There are lots of activities, events and festivals. Check for them on their website: http://www.saublebeach.com/
