"Medieval Beauty & Piety" Brugge by rexvaughan
Brugge Travel Guide: 2,680 reviews and 7,153 photos
The Beguinage or Begijnhof was where young women could lead a life of piety and service without being nuns. It is now home to a group of Benedictine nuns. Admission is about 2 Euro and includes a small museum devoted to past life there.
The walled grounds are beautiful and serene and, in April, festooned with daffodils. The nuns probably don't pose for pictures, so we got one going away.
Gilded Madonna & Child in the small but lovely chapel - Our Lady of Consolation
- Pros:Lovely, easily accessible and inexpensive
- Cons:Only the museum & chapel are open to the public
- In a nutshell:A picture of a different life in a different time

Nice page. Ciao!
Hi Rex, Enjoyed your page, looks like a great place to visit. Have 5 days in Brussels this Sept & intend day trip to Brugge. Can you suggest other day trips including Germany etc.
The museum looks a very beautiful building
Lovely photos and good tips - I could just eat a Belgian waffle! :-) Gillybob greetings
Tour boats a must. Lots of good and helpful tips here...thanks. Lovely city. I simply MUST get there one day. Did I tell you we eat vinegar on fries? Crazy as mayo, I guess.
Gave me a good laugh! :) Very funny!!!
Terrific tips Rex, esp. enjoyed the tip on the Michelangelo statue. Oh and the waffles, will be sure to try on our upcoming visit!!!!
I forgot that I had already visited your excellent Bruges page. I must have an early onset of memory lapse ( LOL ). A city definately worth a second visit.
I met a girl from Brugge in Hong Kong who had spent 5 years in Shanghai learning Chinese. We traveled to Tapai for a week back in'86 and then met again on my return leg of my RTW trip in Brugge in '87 for a week. So Brugge reminds me of the East.Tim
Great Brugge page. So many things I missed last time, you're inspiring me to go back. The spelling you were wondering about is Anselm Adornes (no t) I think.
