For those that visit the Maryland-DC-Virginia area, Baltimore is not one of the cities that most people would pick off the top of their head. In fact though, there are a few good points points about it. Most of them have a lot to do with eating. Since I love to eat, I can't say enough about the restaurants that are my favorites here.
The City of Baltimore was once thought to be doomed for takeover by the British during the War of 1812. After Washington DC was attacked in 1814, Baltimore was next on the list. However, the British were unsuccessful and from that victory, Francis Scott Key's famous poem The Star Spangled Banner was written.
Baltimore was signed into law as a city on August 8, 1729. It became quite prominent because of its harbor. Baltimore has since grown to be the 12th largest city in the United States. The development of the waterfront area has increased its tourism. There is the Baltimore Aquarium and Harborplace down by the harbor. In very close proximity to the harbor is Camden Yards, home to the Baltimore Orioles, and M &T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens. It is home to the very world renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital. |
