The American Government in My Backyard

Columns of Jefferson Memorial
There is so much to say about Washington, DC and yet I don't always have the words to capture its awe and greatness since I have lived near it all my life. It is so easy to take for granted what you have as convenience. As with every city, there is a certain aura or feel to it. Washington DC has a feeling of being very subdued and image conscious. I cannot say that it is a fashionable city, its styles are usually a bit too conservative for my liking. However, it is a city of rumors, intrigue, and history. It is perhaps its history that contributes to its rumors and intrigue, but nevertheless...it is strikingly different than most other cities.

Only as I have become older that I have started to appreciate Washington, DC for what it is. It is the seat of the American government from which all governing order (and sometimes chaos) stems. It is an amazing center for art, culture, history, architecture, nightlife, and dining. The city is so varied in what it has to offer; from the Kennedy Center for the arts to Georgetown and everywhere in between, there is something for everyone.

I also warn you not to neglect the different neighborhoods and possibly venture to points outside the capitol city. There is so much to offer that I am certain that you will find it as enjoyable as I do.

Pros:"Varied architecture. Lots of sites and great restaurants. Nightlife definately is hopping."
Cons:"Parking is difficult near the sites. Need to get there early so you can snag a spot. Weekends and off seasons are better for parking."
In A Nutshell:"Glorious Capital"
