Having explored the south of France once before, we knew Carpentras was the ideal place for a central location. It's an easy drive from the Marseillies airport or the Avignon train station. It's centrally located to much of the small towns what you'd want to explore in Provence (Perne les Fontaines, Lacoste, Bonnieux, Ile sur la Sorgue, etc.) We stayed at a moderately priced bed and breakfast on the outskirts of town where we could easily walk to a restaurant or dinner. A major grocery store complete with gas station and pay phones was two minutes down the road. |

| Pros: | "Central locatino to much of Provence" | | Cons: | "Like most of Provence, the town shuts down in the evening." | | In A Nutshell: | "Great place for relaxing or starting the tour. Hotel Hermitage is where you want to stay." |
