Lucerne, derives from a Celtic word lozzeria meaning " a settlement on marshy ground". And that was way back( more or less" in the mid-eight century when the small Benedictine monastery existed here which thought to be under controlled by the Alsatian Abbey of Murbach. It is said that nothing is concrete about the history of this county until 1178. Around 1220 , Gotthard pass was built thus merchants and travellers settling in and the new impetus for growth was created. The first lakeside road was then built 1865. |
