This Canton has the largest north-south expansion to all Swiss cantons stretching to Jura , to the Midlands and to the Alps. Berne is the major city and the language spoken are German, French and various Bernese dialects.
The northern part borders to Jura, to the west is Neuenburg, Waadt & Fribourg, to the East are Solothurn, Aargau, Lucerne, Nidwald , & Uri, Obwald and to the south is Canton Welsh. The Southern area stretches to Bielersee, Murtensee and the city of Berne(the Aaretal of the Bernese Seeland).
The Alpine region at the soutern part is the famous Bernese Oberland, consisting the Haslital , Brienzersee, Thunersee and Jungfrauregion to the east. Saanenland,Simmental, Frutigerland(Adelboden) and Loetschberg to the west.
At the eastern part lies the alpine-foothills of Emmental(where the famous Emmental cheese is originally made) and at the northeast is the region Oberaargau.
The Bernese Jura belongs to Faltenjura( the Alpine-group).

Ahh :-)) Yes, I was in Grindelwald and Kl. Scheidegg only once, but it is so beautiful !! I've seen the huskies as well, but no sledges those days. And onion market sounds perfect, I love those braids with onions or garlic - yummmm
