STAFF AT THE RINGSIDE-Koh Samui
If you like Thai boxing like I do, then chances are you be near this bar. It is one of two bars that are located right outside the main boxing stadium on Chaweng.
I met one of the owners Emma at a different bar during my first trip, and just by chance ran into "her" again when I went to the boxing on my second trip.
The bar is owned by Emma and her boyfriend and it is a great place to have a few drinks before and/or after the boxing. It is not a very big bar but the staff is very pleasent and you can listen to music or watch TV if you like while drinking.
On my latest trip to Samui this bar was closed for my first few nights, but luckily opened up for my last few. I had a chance to visit with her again, and had a blast here with some other guys I met at the boxing.
Emma has become a good friend and a great person to talk to for me, great for some laughs, and I will keep in contact with her on future trips for sure.
Dress Code: None required, it is an open bar, so the cooler the dress, the better.
Directions: Located outside the Chaweng Stadium across from Round 6 bar.

NEW LOCATION-Koh Samui
I have visited this bar on previous trips, however this time it had changed from what it was like before. The bar is now actually in two locations not far from each other. The bar area I remember was still a short walk from the main road, but now there is also a new addition right on the main street.
The new location is a two level area that is not really all that big, but it's fun and I enjoyed this new addition. The area that I had been to before seemed to stay the same, open late until 8:00am. This time I think they had more "drinking games" then I remember, but as last time the food sure hit the spot after a long night of drinking.
Dress Code: Nothing special just what ever you feel comfortable wearing.
Directions: Chaweng beach road
Theme: Eating and Drinking
PFC SIGN-Koh Samui
Every time I went to the Reggae Pub by foot, I always passed by this bar. After about the 4-5th walk past, I decided to sit down and visit with many of the people that I had seen that week.
It is a small bar, but offers great hospitality and service. The two owners(Nick and Poon) are very nice and offer tons of great information, and friendly advice. Nick is also an independent advisor for property/land purchases on Samui.
This is an English type bar and provides up to the minute stats on the football (soccer) matches, as well as a fair selection of beer.
This is a new bar since my first trip to Thailand, and I took many of my "first timers" here after this visit. I will try and go back for sure on my next holiday to Koh Samui.
***UPDATE#1***On my third trip to Samui I came back here again for another visit. It was only for a few drinks and to see how the owners were doing, but it is always a good place to stop, after the "Go-Go strip". One thing that has changed that I enjoyed, was that they now have Chang beer on tap.....haha. On my next trip I will try and visit this place once again, it should be good as always.
***UPDATE#2***I once again stopped into this bar for a visit. The first time I walked up I noticed that it had changed very much compared to the last time I saw it. The name and staff are the same, but the whole bar was rearranged and much bigger. They now have a much larger area to sit in as well as a couple of new pool tables in the back, and a new sound system.
***UPDATE#3***Kiki and I went here on our way to the Reggae Pub for a short visit. The bar was the same as the last time but it seemed to be quite busy. The owners were suprised to see me after such a long time; after introducing them to Kiki, having a couple of drinks, we said goodbye to continue on with the night. It was good to chat with these people once again and as always is a nice place to come and visit.
Dress Code: Whatever you like while you are out at night in Samui.

FINALLY THE WHOLE BAND-Koh Samui
I once again came back to my favorite bar on Samui on my latest trip, and made my apperance every night for the week that I was here. I wasn't going to go everyday but what can I say, I love it here, the staff treat me very good and I can't get enough of the house band.
On that note, as soon as I came into the bar on my first night, it was like I had never left for 6 months. The bar staff, band, and DJ all remembered who I was and it was just like partying with my friends back home. The staff never left me for long without bringing me a drink (sometimes free) and the band allowed me many pics and video. When I wasn't taking pics or video, the staff would take my cameras and stash them for me behind the bar. Like my trip last September, by the end of my stay, people were asking me if I worked here (I wish..hehe).
I can't say enough about this bar, I have met so many great people here, and when people ask me "what bars are good on Samui", I always tell them to come here. So far I haven't had any complaints, after the people check it out for themself and have a blast.
Dress Code: None required, but it might not be a bad idea to hit the store across the street from the pub, and buy yourself a Bob Marley shirt.

THE BAR-Koh Samui
This was another place that I just happened to walk past many times during the afternoon and finally decided to try out at night. I met many tourists and locals at this spot and that made it a great place to hang out.
During the day it was nice to sit and talk to the staff and have a beer. While at night it was busy with tourists most of the time, and a lot of fun.
I ended up spending quite a bit of time here while I was on Samui, mostly getting "primed" up for the Reggae Pub.
****UPDATE****This bar was closed when I visited on my trip in February 2005, but on my lastest trip I noticed that it has reopened again, but in a different location. I didn't see it until my last night on Samui this time, so I never had a chance to go and see it, or see if any of the people I had met before were still there. I will have to see if it is here on my next visit and make sure I stop in for a drink or two.
Dress Code: Its just off the main road on Chaweng Beach, so anything goes.
Directions: Central Chaweng Beach, about a 10 minute walk from Charlies Hut, right near the lake.

THE DANCEFLOOR-Koh Samui
On my second visit to Koh Samui I had to experience this place once again. I was on Samui for 18 days total and I probably ended up here at least 10 times.
The place was just as crazy as the last time I was here and I just loved it. The band played excellent and the people I brought here couldn't get enough.
Near the end of my visit, people that were coming new into the bar thought I actually worked here, I wish. On that note, I met a ton of people here this time, and this made for a great night on my birthday.
Dress Code: Wear what you feel comfortable in, some nights it rained on me but it just cools everything off.
Address: Across Chaweng lake
Directions: Near the Green Mango on the main street of bars along the lakeshore. You can't miss the huge sign of Bob Marley, especially at night.

THE HOUSE BAND FROM REGGAE PUB-Koh Samui.
From the moment I walked into this bar I knew I was coming back. The bar is wide open with a huge dancefloor and stage at one end, tables right near the lake, and an upper level that has pool tables and the DJ booth.
This place is always packed after about 9-10:00pm and carries on until 2:00am. The seven piece band that played every night I was there were great. They played a mix of their own music, old classics, and of course Bob Marley.
Right behind the band on the stage is a huge carved face of Bob, hanging on the wall. I happen to love Bob so this was another plus for me, and this place.
On Feb. 12th I was lucky enough to be here for the 16th anniversary and it was a night I will never forget. There were all kinds of draws and drinking games and it was quite funny to experience, not to mention way too many buckets of Thai whiskey and beer.
I spent lots of my time here at night while I was In Koh Samui, and I can't wait to get back and enjoy it all over again.
Dress Code: Light comfortable clothing, and if you are with Thai local they will need to show ID.
Address: Across Chaweng lake
Directions: Near the Green Mango on the main street of bars along the lakeshore. You can't miss the huge sign of Bob Marley, especially at night.
