"SURVIVAL TOUR" 2004-2006-BANGKOK

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK (maybe two)

KHAO SAN ROAD-Bangkok
As the title states I didn't spend much time on my first trip to Bangkok. I did see and do a few things however, after only being there for less than 2 days. I still have a couple of items I can mention.

My first ever stop in Thailand was at a place called the
Shamrock Irish Pub located on Khao San road. My brother and I enjoyed, which at that time was our first Chang (Thai beer), while waiting for my cousin. The place was pretty busy and the service was good. There is also a tattoo shop in behind the back of the bar if anybody is interested. After a few Chang we went down Khao San road and looked into many of the shops and vendors along the way. The prices are quite reasonable as compared to other places I visited later on our trip. Later that day we met our cousin and made arrangements to catch our bus/boat to Ko Samui (750bht each).

On the return back from the south islands, my brother and I saw a couple of sites during our last day in Bangkok. Later that night we again returned to the same bar as on our first night in Thailand. From here we had something to eat, had many Chang, did a little more shopping and waited for our bus to take us to the airport back home to Canada.

I liked the sites in Bangkok but the nightlife/people I found elsewhere in Thailand were much different then here. I will come back here again to see the sites I missed, but I will try and get out as soon as I can, back to paradise.
A OVERCAST VIEW-Bangkok.

SECOND TRIP TO BANGKOK...SEPT 2004

On my second trip to Bangkok I found it to be quite different then my first experience. The main difference being that everything wasn't such a shock or surprise to the system.

I spent a few days in Bangkok at the beginning of this trip and then spent another 8 days at the end. The first couple of days were spent in my hotel as I was pretty jet-lagged when I arrived this time. I got to know the manager quite well, I had a good time with him having lunch and talking to his daughters. After I felt better I left Bangkok and took a flight to Ko Samui. I spent about 16 days in Samui and then went back to Bangkok to meet up with my ex-girlfriend.

On my return to Bangkok after being in the sun and on the beach, it was kind of a downer to be back on the mainland. However, I did get to see a few more sites than on my first trip, and the time spent with my ex-girl was excellent. We went to see the Wat Pho, home of the Reclining Buddha and also saw the Grand Palace. Both of these sites were amazing and my brother told me the same from his first trip.

The second version of Bangkok for me was different in a lot of ways, but some of my views have stayed the same. For example, the traffic and pollution are still pretty bad, but being with a local opened my perspective to this city in many ways.

THIRD TRIP BANGKOK-FEBRUARY 2005

On my third visit to Thailand I left and returned to Bangkok a few times, during my 5 week stay. Mainly because I had to meet up with new and old friends, and either stay or travel away. I did however, go shopping again at the weekend market and went to Khao San Road (with VTers Gweenie and Armado) from Singapore, and had a great time. On Khao San we walked along the road, did some shopping, shared a couple of "buckets", and checked out a few bars. I also did make it back to where it all started for me 1 year ago, the Shamrock Irish Pub.

FOURTH TRIP BANGKOK-SEPTEMBER 2005

Once again I stayed in Bangkok for a few days during my stay in Thailand this trip. Most of this was to meet up with my girl and then travel away to the beaches we wanted to see. I stayed for a few days at the beginning and again when I returned from a week on Samui.
While we were in Bangkok we went to Central quite a bit during the day to either have lunch, shop a little, and we also went to the movies a few times.
I also finally had a chance to meet up with a long time VT friend of mine C-Care. We all went out and met at MBK center, enjoyed a nice lunch and explored the mall for the afternoon. It was a short visit with her but it was fun, and I'm sure we will meet up again someday.

BACK TO BANGKOK-APRIL 2006

This past trip saw me once again return to Bangkok to start my holiday, and I left and returned here a few times during my 5 week stay.
For the first few days we just stayed near the hotel and I relaxed mostly until I was able to take Kiki away. Our first trip from Bangkok was to Koh Samet, it was a first for me and it was great. We only were able to stay for 2 days/1 night, but it was enough for me to know I would like to go back (see tips for more info). We came back to Bangkok and stayed for around 5 days, until we decided to head for Koh Lanta during the Thai New Year. While we waited at night we would go out to Central and eat, shop, see some movies, anything to pass the time. Once we reached Koh Lanta I stayed 10 days, Kiki 7 before we had to come back again (see tips for more info). For the last part of my holiday we were in Bangkok and we did manage to do a few more things before I came home. I went and tried out the Leoland Waterpark a couple of times to cool off and do something different. It was more for kids of course, but I still had a good time getting out of the hotel for awhile. I also did quite a bit of shopping during this time, Kiki and I went to Khao San Road to do this one night. At the end of my trip this time I also had a chance to meet Kikis dad which was overdue for quite sometime (see travelogue for pics).
I ended up staying here more so on this trip then I would have predicted but, it was a good time and it gave me the chance to spend more time with my girl.
