KEVIN TOURS THAILAND...PARTS 1-8

by mamasan69 - last update: Mar 22, 2009

THAILAND-2004-2008

IN THE JUNGLE-Koh Samui 2009
FIRST TIME
After a 15 hour bus/boat ride to Samui from Bangkok, we at last found paradise. I stayed about 17 days in Koh Samui, and took in the Full Moon Party on Koh Pha-Ngan. After leaving Koh Samui, we all got some tattoos in Koh Lanta and did some cliff jumping and snorkeling on Koh Phi Phi.

My travel companions ( my brother Keith & cousin Gary) and myself experienced plenty in each area we visited, in the short month we were here. My brother visited Thailand about four years ago, where he saw many of the same sites the first two weeks we were here.

The second half of the month was spent all on spots my brother hadn't been to, so this made for quite an interesting end to the journey. The last few days in Thailand saw my brother and I in
Hua Hin, where we stayed near the beach to relax for the last couple of days, as we were making our way back to Bangkok. We had to split with our cousin in Koh Lanta, he had to leave four days before us, heading back to Canada.

On my travel pages I will go into more detail on each area, show a few pictures, and hopefully give some informative tips as well. After living in Canada all my life, this was a trip I will always remember. The weather, people, sites, and nightlife were all top notch everywhere I went.

My new plan is to go back to Thailand every six months and stay at least a month each time. I have been hooked and want to go back until I get tired of this place, which I don't think will happen anytime soon.
I will add a new chapter to this list after each trip, and hopefully inspire others to visit this wonderful country
.

THAILAND PART 2...SEPTEMBER 2004

I visited Thailand for the second time this year to celebrate my birthday. I spent another month mostly between Koh Samui and Bangkok. I stayed on Samui for about 18 days this trip and had a great time relaxing by the beach during the day. At night I would take other people I met during the day, out to see the clubs and Thai boxing. I enjoyed the fact that I was helping "first timers" explore and experience Samui, something like my brother did for me on my first trip.

I was in Bangkok for about 11 days in total, some at the start of my month, the rest at the end. I did go and see a few sites that I missed here on my first visit, but most of my time was spent with my girlfriend. We would go exploring during the day and at night we would go out to have a few drinks and some nightlife activities.

All of the new people I met, as well as the ones I met on my last trip, made this visit quite rewarding and different than my last experience. The last time here it was so new and unexpected, I missed out on the many things that made this one special. For example, I picked up more of the language and culture being with my girl at the end of my trip, but also at the beginning when I was by myself.

THAILAND PART 3, SOUTH-FEBRUARY 2005.

On my latest trip to Thailand I did much of the same as my previous trips, but with an added trip to Koh Chang. I travelled here with my ex- girl and her friends and had a great first visit of this island.

It was an action packed month of travelling and visiting new and old friends. I spent about 10 days on
Koh Lanta, 5 days on Koh Samui, 3 days on Koh Chang, 2 days in Krabi and the rest in Bangkok.

Most of my daytime was spent near the beach as much as possible, I got another tattoo on Koh Lanta, and had a short, but very nice trip to Koh Chang. My night activities included lots of Chang beer and partying with my friends, no matter where I went (some things never change...haha).

I had some camera issues on this trip and therefore, some of my pictures didn't make it back with me. However I will try and provide some new updates to my pages, to reflect my latest journey to Thailand.

THAILAND PART 4-SEPTEMBER/2005

I have once again returned from another month in Thailand, for my holidays and to celebrate my birthday.

I stayed in Bangkok with my ex-girlfriend for the first few days of this trip, before we both went on a short trip to Pattaya. We spent 5 days here mainly near the beach during the day, and seeing the "NIGHTLIFE" in the evening. We generally would leave our room and go eat before heading to the Walking Street, heart of the tourist scene (see tips for more info).

This was my first experience out of all my trips in Thailand to Pattaya. This was mainly due to the stories I have heard, but it was a good time overall, and I had fun with my ex-girlfriend here. I ended up celebrating my birthday here and we had another "funny" night at the Bamboo Bar, as it turned out.

After returning back to Bangkok I had to split with my girl at this time, due to her university commitments. I used this time to fly down to Samui for about a week, instead of spending the week here. It was another fun time visting the island that started it all for me 11/2 years ago.
I did many of the same activities that I usually do while here, but also met up with many new and old friends. Many of these new contacts came from meeting up with people at one of my two hangouts, the Thai boxing stadium or Reggae Pub.
After spending a week parting on Samui I returned to Bangkok to continue my holiday with my ex.

We decided to spend the last part of my month to place we visited together on my last trip, Koh Chang. Due to the fact that we were late leaving Bangkok and missed the last boat to the island, we ended up staying overnight in Trat. We ended up spending about 5 days on Koh Chang, having a great time on the beach, and other activities like an elephant trek (see tips for more info).

The weather didn't turn out to be as good as we hoped, but it mainly rained at night or early morning/afternoon (lucky for us). This still usually allowed us to get some sun, swim or have some fun on the beach at some point during the day. We at least got to experience the trek, which was a first for both of us. I really like this island and plan to stay longer on future trips here.

It was a wonderful stay again here, spending a relaxing conclusion to my latest, but not last trip, to Thailand. I can hardly wait to go back again already, and will look forward to many more adventures in the place I love.

THAILAND PART FIVE-APRIL 2006

After a 7-1/2 month wait, I was able to head back to Thailand for another five week holiday and visit with my ex Kiki. It was worth the wait as it turned out to be a fantastic time spent with her on Koh Lanta, and Koh Samet.

After arriving in Bangkok this time I met Kiki in the airport and we left to stay at my usual hotel (The Avana). As it turned out I ended up coming back here many different times during my stay this time. In between trips to the islands we would return to allow Kiki to go back to work.

The first little trip we went on together was a short 2 day, 1 night trip to Koh Samet. This was the first time to this island for me and I wasn't disappointed from what I heard about it. The water was so blue and the beach sand so white it was probably the nicest island I have been to yet. Even though it was such a short visit this time, I plan to come back and stay longer on a future trip.

We then went back to Bangkok and planned our second trip together during her week off because of the Thai New Year (Songkran). It was decided that we would go down to Krabi and make our way to Koh Lanta and spend the week. The original plan was to stay on Lanta for a few days and the head back to Krabi for the end. However, as always plans changed, and we spent the whole week on Lanta; in fact I ended up staying for about ten days.

I once again met up with Kiki in Bangkok and we didn't do too much for the last week I was here. During the day I would wait for her to get off of work, so I would hang out at the hotel, at the pool or in the room. At night we would sometimes stay in and watch movies, but other nights we would go out and shop or eat.

It was another relaxing but fun adventure in Thailand this time, I got to see Samet, had another tattoo done on Lanta, but most of all I got to spend the whole time with my ex-girl Kiki.

THAILAND PART SIX-FEBRUARY 2007

I finally had another chance to go back and visit Thailand recently after a long 10 1/2 month wait. After waitng for close to a year for this trip I was desperate to go on holiday, and to visit with my ex-girl Kiki for five weeks. Again we met up at the airport, but from there we went back to our new apartment that I have been renting for a few months. On this trip I had a chance to visit a few new places as well as see some of my old friends from previous times.

Kiki and I stayed in Bangkok for a few days at the begining of this trip, planning to go up and visit her family up in Ayuthaya. I was a little worried at this time because up until this I had only ever met her Dad. We stayed with her family for a few days and did a couple of day trips to see some sites. On our first outing we visited the marine park in Suphan Buri province near Chawak Lake. This was a great place to view many of the native fish species which are on display, as well as the croc farm. The next day we into Ayuthaya city, went to a temple and then to feed some elephants. The evenings were spent visiting with Kiki and her family, to my surprise this turned out to be a great time.

Once back in Bangkok we again stayed for a few days while Kiki was at work. During the evening we mainly relaxed and planned our next trip to Koh Samui. We flew down to Surat Thani on route to Samui via the ferry. Our original plan was to only stay on Samui for a couple days and then head on to Koh Tao. However after finding a nice place to stay on Maenam Beach, we decided to stay for the whole week instead. The beach was very nice, but our room at the Phalarn Inn was one of the best I have stayed in. The week was spent around the room or on the beach, and at night we would go out or party at the room. I managed to take Kiki to the Reggae Pub on it's 19th anniversery bash, and it was fun as usual. We also met up with quite a number of travellers that made many of the nights interesting.

After the Samui trip we again went back to our room in Bangkok where I planned to go down to Koh Lanta for a few days. I decided to head down for four days to visit some of my friends and get another tattoo.

My first stop was Krabi where I stayed overnight. Next stop was Lanta and I was very lucky to stay at the same bungalows, as it was very busy all through the island this trip. I arrived and after checking in I went to Bamboo Tattoo to start what turned out to be three days of getting tattooed. I got some touch up work done to an old tatoo and added more work to another one. These appointments were done in the morning or early afternoon, so it left the evenings free to go out and have some fun. I met a couple of travelers from Germany and we spent the nights usually having a dinner and then drinks at Bobs Bar. It was a short trip this time, but I had a great time seeing my friends and hanging out on the island.

After this trip I went back to Bangkok to plan out the last trip of my holiday. The next plan was to go back to Koh Chang with Kiki and a few of her friends. We took the night bus to Trat and caught an early morning boat to reach the island. We stayed in a nice resort after having to wait for our rooms to become available. During the following days we travelled to see the same waterfall from a pevious trip, went to a couple beaches, and scootered around the island. At night we usually went out to eat and then go back to our room to pary it up. All I know is now I wish that I never showed Kiki and her friends "quarters", a drinking game that I grew up with in Canada. The time went by very fast and the next thing I knew I was back in Bangkok and going home soon.

I had a very good time on this trip with meeting many new people and also visiting some old friends. I got to see new sites and visited places I never even would have thought about. As always the time went too quick but I look forward to my next trip and hope to do it all over again.

THAILAND PART SEVEN-NOVEMBER 2007

I have returned recently from my latest holiday to Thailand, and like always, this one was busy but lots of fun. The journey started in Bangkok, and from here we visited many parts of Thailand that I never been to or haven't visited for some time (first trip).

After arriving I met up with Kiki and we spent the next few days in Bangkok planning what we would do for the 5 weeks I would this time. We decided on first going to visit her Grandparents and Mom for a few days up north of Bangkok, in Nakhon Sawan. It was good to see them all again and we spent a relaxing time with them at their home.

When we returned to Bangkok I decided to make a short trip to Koh Samet by myself while Kiki was working. I rented a driver from the Avana lobby to drive me to the pier and pick me up two days later. This was a great way to go and it only cost around 5000 bht. I found a nice resort called the Malibu ( see tips) and it turned out to be a great time, even though it was so short.

The next stop for my trip took us to Hua Hin with a couple of Kikis friends to meet up with her Dad for a few days. Unfortunately I was feeling a little ill (too much sun/party in Samet) and it was raining most of the time; but we managed to see some sites and visit the beach. It was hard to get over that this was where my brother and I spent the last of my first Thailand tours. Not much had changed in four years but it was nice walking around seeing it again.

We returned to Bangkok so Kiki could work and we started to plan our tip down south. This week was spent doing a few things around bangkok that we wanted to do, and we spent quite a few nights enjoying the beer gardens all around the city. We decided on spending our next trip between Koh Phi Phi and Lanta islands. Kiki had a week off from work so we split the time and had a blast at both places. It was wonderful to see Phi Phi again after four years, it seems that not too much had changed really, still busy like I remembered. Kiki and I spent time at our room, hanging out at the beach, went on an island day trip and had fun times at night at a bar near our room. We went to Koh Lanta after this and did what is becoming a ritual of visiting our friends there and me getting a tattoo. We had an exciting time together on this southern trip, meeting new people, visiting old friends and having fun doing new things.

On my final return to Bangkok for my holiday this time, I spent much of the last days hanging out with Kiki and her friends, did some shopping and wished I didn't have to leave. This trip for me was on of the best I have had in awhile; I was able to see my ex-Love and experience many new things with her, and I was once again lucky enough to meet many new people and visit with my old friends. I hope to make my next trip to Thailand by the end of 2008 and I can't wait to do it all over again.

THAILAND PART EIGHT-JULY 2008

I will return to Thailand for my latest holiday, however it will be my last posting for this page. Due to circumstances beyond my control, Kiki and I have parted and therefore continuing on with these pages will end. I will update this page one last time and may start a new one someday.
Thank you to everybody that took the time to enjoy my adventures, take care and HAPPY TRAVELS.

I did return for a busy trip through Thailand, with a short stop in Singapore added in this time. My thanks go out to Tina, Fizah and their friends for touring me around, I had a great time. The month went by fast as usual, but overall it was a good trip except for the weather. I also had the chance to meet with my first Thai girlfriend after 4 years apart and we had a nice time getting to know each other once again. It was like we had never been apart from before and I look forward to seeing her again on future trips....I will keep you all updated as things go on.
