Not Orkney Isles -Just Orkney! We sailed from John O'Groats to Orkney and took a 1 day tour around the southern islands. They are connected by dams, the Churchill Barriers which were made during the war. There are almost no trees on Orkney because the winds are so violent that it is almost impossible for roots to get a hold in the rocky ground before they are blown away. There is only one small forest in all of Orkney, and apparently the school kids have to go there to see what a forest is like as part of their curriculum. Top spots in Orkney for me where Standing Stones and Skara Brae |
