Cross Country Skiing, and other ramblings

Cross County Skiing in Michigan Upper Peninaula was just ok this year. Thunder Lake, just northwest of Manistique is where we haved call home during the last few years' New Year's holiday, is usually excellent Cross County glade skiing with many terrain changes. One may ski the Hiawatha National Forest old logging roads, or venture up to the 'Thunder Bowl'. This is a defunct little downhill ski area off of Thunder Lake Rd. My first trip to my in-laws cabin in 1987 I bought out the Sporting Goods store of all the old original leather lace up downill boots. That was a coup........: - )

Ice Fishing was great this year, with my daughter catching a foot long pike in the Thunder Lake. The kids went fishing a couple times. I have tape of it, and hope to transfer to Windows media, once I figure it out. LOL. Ther are cabins along Thunder lake as well. They can be found on the Manistique.com site.

Pros and Cons

  • Cons:When the snow is too good, you have to dodge the snowmobiles!
