All about Karyn...

A little background on moi...

My hometown is Columbus, Ohio. But I lived in Germany with my husband, who works for NATO from December 2003 to December 2007. We now live just outside Seattle.

When I lived in Germany, I was a travel writer, and I came to VT to get great tips to include in many of my city guides and articles. This is such a great place and I love getting random comments from people all over the world.

I am slowly adding some stuff to my VT pages. I hope you enjoy my photos and tips and find them helpful.

My Love Affair with England

Okay, so I stole the title of this chapter from a travel memoir I read (it was good, by the way).

Out of all the places I have traveled, England is by far my favorite. Maybe it's because I have a degree in English Literature. Maybe it's because I was probably English in a past life. I don't know. I just love it. My first trip there (my first trip ever overseas) was in 1999 when I studied abroad at Bath Spa University College. I was a lucky participant in Ohio State's summer program - the English department did this program every year.

The program is now defunct, sadly. They are doing a program with the University of Greenwich now. I am so fortunate that I got to spend my summer in Bath. I can't imagine a better place to study abroad.
Aachen - one of my favorite German cities

Life in Germany

I lived in Germany for 4 years. I had always dreamed of living in Europe, although Germany would not have been my first choice (England was, if you must know...followed by France, because I took French in high school).

But I have really enjoyed the experience of living here. It hasn't always been easy, but I have had the opportunity to see so many amazing places and do so many incredible things. And I've met some really great people. And even though England is #1 in my heart, I will always hold a special place for Germany.

Where do we go from here?

I'm now in Seattle and have only just begun to explore the Pacific Northwest.
