Me and one of my mates are massive Sopranos fans, so we found out we could do a half day tour of locations from the hit HBO series.
If you are a fan of the show you will defo find this trip really enjoyable, the bus picks you up just off Times Square at the Fashion Button. The cost is approx 30 bucks and last for about 4 hours.
The tour guide guy is a very well informed Sopranos maniac (verging on being a Stalker maybe?), but he uses his knowledge to great effect by giving a running commentary from when you leave Manhattan and follow the same route as Tony does on the opening credits of the programme.
All the locations are actually in New Jersey, first stop was at the diner under the Pulaski Skyway where Christopher got shot, all the time though as you are going along in the bus the tour guide is giving you snippets of where scenes have been filmed. Next stop was at Satriale's Pork Store where ample time is giving to take snaps(see me). This is kinda a weird place cos by all accounts it looks like its a real Pork Store, the guide even said when HBO first decked it out that locals were knocking on the door wondering when it was to open, when in fact its just a fake shop, look inside and u will see it looks like a resturant.
Favourite stop though was at Tony's favourite hang out, the Bada Bing Strip Club. This is actually a real life functioning strip joint called Satin Dolls, you get the chance(if you want, there was no stoping me) to go inside and see the place for yourself. The owner of the place has cottoned onto the growing number of tourists and sells Sopranos memorbilia from his pokey little store room, got to admire his entrepenuerism though.
Before heading back to Manhattan the bus stops of at a traditional Italian Bakery to pick up some damn tasty Canolli which went down a storm.
All in all a stonking half day break from the hustle of Manhattan but only for the avid Soprano's viewer. But if you ain't caught this series, which in my opinion is the finest on the box, then you must be daft.
